Telesales or Telemarketing what’s the difference?

If you are unsure what the difference is between telesales and telemarketing you wouldn’t be alone! However to get the most from your campaign it is vital to understand the differences and how they can best be applied.
Telemarketing: The marketing of products or services over the telephone to increase brand awareness and generate interest. Typical telemarketing requirements include lead generation, follow up or appointment making. However, telemarketing can also encompass market research or customer relationship marketing such as customer ‘win back’ campaigns or seeking customer feedback.

Telesales: The selling of products or services directly over the telephone which lead to closing a sale. Examples of telesales include: selling B2B advertorial space, tickets to events, new telecoms or insurance products etc.

Sometimes both are used! After all a successful lead generation campaign without timely telesales follow-up can be futile. Alternatively a multiple approach to telemarketing may be required. For example telephone market research to ‘fact find’ may be followed on by a clearly defined lead generation campaign. A truly integrated campaign may also include the distribution of postal or electronic mail to follow up on. It all depends on your specific requirements and thorough planning!
